> Purpose of this study:
> To determine the effects of hyperbaric oxygen on stroke in patients 6 to 36 months post stroke.
>
> Who can participate?
> Anyone between the ages of 19-85, who has had one stroke within the cerebral cortex, 6 months to 3 years ago. All participants must speak and understand English.
>
> What is involved?
> Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves the inhalation of 100% oxygen at increased environment pressure inside a closed chamber. The oxygen is dissolved in your blood and carried to all your organs.  This increase in oxygen can produce a wide variety of effects on your organs.
> The study will be enrolling 140 participants in total. A participant will be randomized to two different treatment arms that will have two different environment pressures and levels of oxygen to breathe. Participants will not be aware as to which group they have been randomized.
> Each participant will receive a series of 40 – 2 hour treatment once per day, 5 days a week, within the hyperbaric oxygen chamber.  There will be 6 participants in the chamber at the same time, along with a nurse attendant.
> There will be assessments (that take about 1 hour) completed before, during and after treatment for just over one year.  There will be 3 visits required for assessments after your treatments have finished.
>
> When does this study take place?
> Recruitment is to begin in January 2016 and will continue until December 2017
>
> Where does this study take place/location?
> The study will take place within Vancouver General Hospital within the Hyperbaric Unit or Clinical Research Rooms.
